Thomas Smale chr 20 Sep 1818 son of Thomas Smale and Mary (Labourer) of Brand__
I have been trouble working out what Mary's maiden name is. Only thing I have found anywhere is:
Thomas SMALE married Mary PALMER Holsworthy on 6th June 1815 (But Holsworthy is a fair way from Merton)
Have you any ideas.
If you're intereted: Thomas born 1818 married at Peter’s Marland 3rd May 1841 to Mary WHITLOCK born Peter's M. circa 1819 daughter of Will WHITLOCK and Sarah HUTCHINGS.
One of their daughters Mary SMALE born Merton 30th July 1850 married at Merton on 2 July 1868 to John WEBBER bapt Winkleigh 12 Nov 1846.
Mary died in childbirth on 12 Aug 1879.
John and Mary's son William Alfred WEBBER was my grandfather and was born in Merton on 20th June 1871.

My second cousin says our family traces back to Devon in the UK. My grandfather's father's name was William Smale, who emigrated to Canada in the 19th century and helped found Hampton, Ontario. Curious to know if I still have family connections in Devon
